Fun fact: the history of the (in)famous prefix NS in OSX -> macOS is a direct nod to the acronym of NextStep, hence NS. As NeXTSTEP was incorporated back into Apple, it was now re-appropriated as New System. Same thing goes to Cocoa and Cocoa Touch, as the legacy NeXTSTEP still lives on
